Bankrolling Nollywood: The Challenges and Benefits of Film Finance

Majority of the filmmakers in #Nollywood are still ignorant of what is film finance.
They need to know that film finance is one of the most critical aspects of film production. It is more than just having enough budget to shoot a movie.
It is more than getting a grant for a film project.

Professional experts in film finance say it is the evaluation of the potential value of a proposed film. In the United States, the value is typically based on a forecast of revenues (generally 10 years for films and 20 years for television shows), beginning with theatrical release, and including DVD sales, and release to cable  broadcast television networks both domestic and international and inflight airline licensing according to @wikipedia. But in Nigeria, local filmmakers, investors and sponsors think it is cash and carry. They want to make their money back within 12 months.

Nigerian banks like Ecobank of Nigeria, Access Bank and Nigeria's Bank of Industry (BoI) have been directly and indirectly bankrolling Nollywood. I have proposed a seminar on "Financing Nollywood" for filmmakers, marketers, film distributors and investors on the challenges and benefits of their financial support for the Nigerian film industry.
