My US$3000 Challenge

I am in urgent need of US$3000 (three thousand dollars) within 24 hours to pay for house rent for one year.

Presently, due to critical economic crunch and delayed incomes, I don't have any money to pay for house rent and the welfare of my poor dependants of underprivileged children in Nigeria.

Delays in my incomes have been caused by lack of sales of my books on Amazon and other booksellers and delays in the acquisition of the film and TV rights to the movies and series I am marketing for producers and distributors.

I will be grateful for every amount of support I receive within 24 hours before I become homeless tomorrow.

CONTRIBUTION in USD can be sent to my bank account:

7 out of 10 Teachers Think the Internet Could Help Improve Communication With Parents

7 out of 10 Teachers Think the Internet Could Help Improve Communication With Parents

BERGEN, Germany, March 29, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- 71% of teachers feel that a secure internet 'parent portal',where parents could see details about their child's schooling, would improve school-to-parent communication,according to a survey of 5805 teachers released today by leading educational ICT provider itslearning (http://www.itslearning.eu).

In the survey of teachers in France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the UK and the US, 75% of teachers also rated parental engagement as either 'important' or 'very important' for the success of a child's education. However, 44% said they didn't have the time or means to communicate with parents as much as they would like.

"Teachers agree that involving parents is critical,but they aren't able to communicate with parents effectively," says Morten Fahlvik,Research Manager at itslearning. "Most teachers speak to parentsat least once a semester. But communication has to occur more often to be really effective. The internet could be the answer - as long as the tool is correctly designed."

How do teachers currently communicate with parents? According to the survey, 46% of teachers email each of their students' parents at least once a month; 37% use texts/SMSs and 24% still send letters.

"Many teachers use a mix of technologies to communicate with parents, but none of them are specifically designed for the task," says Fahlvik. "Teachers want a tool that will improve the flow of information and reduce their workload."

To meet this need, itslearning launched a parent portal last year. As part of the company's cloud-based learning platform, much of the information on the portal - such as grades and attendance - is updated automatically to save teachers time. Teachers can also add specific information about individual students as required.

"The teachers have been extremely positive," says Fahlvik. "We're now surveying the parents to discover how they feel about the portal."

New book to help today’s students and young managers become the leaders of the 21st Century

Bestselling author Annie McKee releases new book to help today’s students and young managers become the leaders of the 21st Century

Bestselling author Annie McKee

Philadelphia, PA. March 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The world has changed. In Management: A Focus on Leaders (Prentice Hall, 2011), New York Times bestselling business book author, Annie McKee, broadens her reach from business leaders to include students and young managers—combining the best of the old with the best of the new. This book prepares today’s students and young managers to become the leaders of the future.

Hundreds of thousands of graduate and undergraduate students take a Principles of Management course each year. Most textbooks used in these courses today were originally written decades ago—many of which still include research and models that aren’t relevant to today’s organizations. McKee’s Management: A Focus on Leaders gives faculty the book they have been asking for to address today’s challenges. The book provides practical, relevant content and a readable style that engages students and young managers meaningfully in what it takes to lead in the 21st Century. McKee has reset the dial for students.

“At a time when leadership has become almost indefinable, McKee has given it new depth and clarity. This is a management book carefully crafted to raise the bar—and it does.”—Jim Lopresti, faculty, University of Colorado
Tradition Meets NOW–Essential, Current Topics

Grounded in the best research of the past and latest research in neuropsychology, organizational theory, and management, Management: A Focus on Leaders moves away from looking at management as silos: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. It presents an integrated model with leadership at the center. In order to better reflect the environment in which students will soon find themselves, this text has incorporated key and current management topics throughout the book and includes immense online resources, including:

* Emotional and social intelligence
* Ethics and the responsible use of power
* Social, technological, and organizational change
* Fostering innovation at all levels in organizations
* Sustainable organizations and communities
* The power of human diversity
* Managing in a global environment
* How to inspire and motivate people
* Adaptability and resilience
* Self-awareness and self management
* Leadership at all levels: today everyone needs to lead
* Creating high performance cultures

“The pace and scope of change in our organizations and our economic and social systems is unprecedented,” says McKee. “Many people believe, and I am one of them, that many of the crises our globe is facing today are the result of a failure of leadership at many levels and in all sectors. Today’s students will be cleaning up our messes, and I see this as a once-in-a-lifetime wake-up call and opportunity for educators everywhere to prepare students for the very complex world that awaits them.”

In The Wall Street Journal, Business Week and New York Times bestseller, Primal Leadership, Annie and her co-authors (Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis) unveiled new scientific evidence demonstrating that a leader’s emotional intelligence and mood have an enormous impact on group performance and an organization’s bottom line. With the publication of her new textbook, Annie has become the scholar-practitioner-mentor for a new generation of managers and leaders across sectors.

As a founder of the global leadership firm, Teleos Leadership Institute, Annie is a leader in her own right, named by Business Week as one of the Top Leaders of the Year, calling her “The high priestess of executive coaching,” for her work advising executives around the globe.
About Annie McKee

McKee is best-known as the co-author of the Harvard Business Press trilogy, including bestseller, Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence (2002) with Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis; Resonant Leadership: Renewing Yourself and Connecting with Others Through Mindfulness, Hope and Compassion (2005); and Becoming a Resonant Leader (2008).

McKee has worked closely with senior teams at international firms such as UniCreditGroup, Thomson-Reuters, BP, HSBC, United Nations Development Program, Vodafone, SAP, and Creative Commons. McKee serves on the Board of Directors for the Leader to Leader Institute and is Adjunct Professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education and has lectured at The Wharton School. Her work has appeared in the Harvard Business Review, BusinessWeek, Leader to Leader, and Psychology Today.

As a prominent thought leader, Annie speaks to global audiences about leadership, most recently at the World Bank, the United Nations, Google, The Omega Institute, and IBM.

Annie currently leads the Teleos Leadership Institute with co-founder Frances Johnston and a powerful team of senior advisors and consultants.

Too Many Churches, Too Many Fake Christians

Too Many Churches, Too Many Fake Christians

There are more churches in Nigeria than any other nation on earth. But the credibility of most of them is in doubt, because the more you look at the congregants the less Christianity you see in their lives outside the walls of their churches.

As our Lord and Master Jesus Christ our MESSIAH said that by their fruits you shall know them, the fruits of these churches are rotten.
I do not see much difference in the lives of the so called Christians and pagans. In fact, the pagans in Nigeria fear their juju voodoo more than these Nigerian Christians fear GOD.

How can we have millions of people who claim to be regular churchgoers and yet Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries on earth.

The police officers extorting money from motorists on the road are still showing up in church to increase the congregations of hypocrites.
The covetous and greedy parents who have turned to the pimps of their giddy-giddy daughters are also the so called Christian mothers and elders in the churches.

Majority of the looters in the National Assembly and state assemblies, Local Government and Council offices and other public offices are still the same people sharing the pews with you in the church.

The same impressionable and innocent brothers and sisters posing and posturing as your fellow Christians are still the same cheating, lying, stealing and plotting more evils to harm and even kill others.

Well, you can know them by their fruits and separate the bad apples from the good ones.

An appeal from Wikipedia founder, Jimmy Wales

An appeal from Wikipedia founder, Jimmy Wales
Today, I am asking you to make a donation to support Wikipedia.

I started Wikipedia in 2001, and over the past eight years, I've been amazed and humbled to see hundreds of thousands of volunteers join with me to build the largest encyclopedia in human history.

Wikipedia isn't a commercial website. It's a community creation, entirely written and funded by people like you. More than 340 million people use Wikipedia every month - almost a third of the Internet-connected world. You are part of our community.

I believe in us. I believe that Wikipedia keeps getting better. That's the whole idea. One person writes something, somebody improves it a little, and it keeps getting better, over time. If you find it useful today, imagine how much we can achieve together in 5, 10, 20 years.

Wikipedia is about the power of people like us to do extraordinary things. People like us write Wikipedia, one word at a time. People like us fund it. It's proof of our collective potential to change the world.

We need to protect the space where this important work happens. We need to protect Wikipedia. We want to keep it free of charge and free of advertising. We want to keep it open – you can use the information in Wikipedia any way you want. We want to keep it growing – spreading knowledge everywhere, and inviting participation from everyone.

The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization I created in 2003 to operate, grow, nurture, and protect Wikipedia. For ten million US dollars a year and with a staff of fewer than 35 people, it runs the fifth most-read website in the entire world. I'm asking for your help so we can continue our work.

Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet has free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That’s where we’re headed. And with your help, we will get there.

Thank you for using Wikipedia. You're part of this story: please make a donation today.

IBM, Novartis and Vodafone Join Forces to Help Halt Malaria in Africa

LONDON, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- A new solution developed by IBM (NYSE:IBM) , Novartis and Vodafone with the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, is helping to save lives using everyday technology to improve the availability of anti-malarial drugs in remote areas of Tanzania.

Called "SMS for Life," the initiative uses a combination of mobile phones, SMS (Short Messaging Service) technologies and intuitive web sites to track and manage the supply of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) drugs and Quinine injectables, both of which are key to reducing the number of deaths from malaria.

The mosquito-borne disease causes nearly one million deaths in Africa each year, mostly among pregnant women and young children, and many people die because they simply lack quick access to vital medication.

The concept of using text messaging to improve stock management of life-saving medicines was developed by pharmaceutical company Novartis and a team of international students taking part in IBM's internship program, Extreme Blue. The team came up with SMS for Life, as it relies on simple technology and fosters self-sufficiency. IBM was tasked with managing the overall project and Vodafone was invited to develop and manage a system based on simple SMS messaging that would help ensure dispensaries did not run out of vital stock.

After visits to clinics, hospitals and dispensaries across Tanzania, IBM, Novartis and Vodafone initiated a five-month pilot of the SMS for Life solution, covering 135 villages and over a million people in different geographic locations across Tanzania.

Vodafone, together with its technology partner MatsSoft, developed a system in which healthcare staff at each facility receives automated SMS messages, which prompt them to check the remaining stock of anti-malarial drugs each week. Using toll-free numbers, staff reply with an SMS to a central database system hosted in the United Kingdom, providing details of stock levels, and deliveries can be made before supplies run out at local health centres.

"This is an example of a truly innovative solution helping solve a humanitarian problem," says Peter Ward of IBM, SMS for Life Project Manager. "After spending time on the ground, we created a project plan, developed the application with Vodafone and Novartis and established the best way to deliver the pilot, working with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health. We expect other countries will also be able to benefit in the future."

"Vodafone has worked closely with IBM, Novartis and MatsSoft, to develop a simple, robust and innovative system that is able to deliver even in the most remote African communities," said Dr. Dianne Sullivan, Scientific Adviser, Mobile Health, of Vodafone. "The SMS for Life solution shows the tremendous potential of mobile technology to deliver social good through lateral thinking by helping to ensure supplies of life-saving drugs."

During the first few weeks of the pilot, the number of health facilities with stock-outs in one district alone, was reduced by over 75 percent. The early success of the SMS for Life pilot project has the Tanzanian authorities interested in implementing the solution across the rest of the country. Tanzania has around 5,000 clinics, hospitals and dispensaries, but at any one time, as many as half could potentially be out of stock of anti-malarial drugs.

"The SMS for Life program has already had a positive effect in Tanzania," says Senior Health Officer with Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Tanzania, Winfred Mwafongo. "I've seen district medical officers ordering urgent stock replacements for various health facilities. During a visit to 19 rural health facilities in one district alone, I saw huge improvements in their inventory management systems. I'm very impressed with the results so far and look forward to following the rest of the pilot through to completion."

"Collaboration is critical to tackle health problems of the developing world, and we are proud to be part of the SMS for Life partnership, a project that will reduce stock-outs, and ensure that mothers and their young children in Africa have access to life-saving anti-malarial medicines," says Silvio Gabriel, Executive Vice President and Head of the Malaria Initiatives at Novartis.

Designed as a public and private partnership leveraging the skills and resources of several companies, SMS for Life could have far-reaching implications for existing health systems worldwide. Several other African states are already keen to introduce the project.

Children International Stands Up & Takes Action with the United Nations to Help Fight Poverty

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 15, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — Children International joins the United Nations’ campaign to fight poverty one child at a time!

The U.S.-based humanitarian organization, which helps poor children around the world, invites you to observe the fourth annual “Stand Up & Take Action” event October 16-18 by supporting the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals to end hunger and poverty.

Nearly 300,000 Children International contributors have stood up and taken action every month by pledging their constant financial and emotional support of one child living in desperate poverty. In 2008, 116 million people took part in United Nations’ Stand Up & Take Action events around the world.

In response to the global food crisis and skyrocketing food prices, Children International has established a new Emergency Lifeline Food Program in 2008 which provides badly-needed food to poor children and their families whose constant fight against poverty leaves them hungry and malnourished. The Emergency Lifeline Food Program provides vitamins, enriched food and nutrition education to children and their parents in local community centers in 11 countries around the world. In the first half of this year, Children International provided food and nutrients to more than 17,000 children through their nutritional rehabilitation program.

This year, millions of participants plan to commemorate the event by organizing tree-plantings, music vigils and blood drives.

Children International’s President and CEO Jim Cook said, “Children International works every day to support the United Nations’ goals to end global poverty by lifting poor children out of crushing poverty. By partnering with Stand Up & Take Action, we will make a difference in the lives of poor children around the world.”
