Ojude Oba: Preserving Our Culture is Preserving Our Future

Preserving Our Culture is Preserving Our Future

In an age where globalisation threatens indigenous identity, festivals such as Ojude Oba remind people that preserving culture is ultimately preserving the future.

The fanfare, glitz and razzmatazz of the
pomp and pageantry of the annual Ojude Oba Festival in Ogun State of south western Nigeria should be an international tourist attraction and destination.
It is the most beautiful and colourful fashion parade of the best haute couture of Yoruba culture in the world.

Globacom and other cosponsors should include Nigerian supermodels like Eniola Abioro, the first Nigerian model to walk for Prada, Mayowa Nicholas, Adesuwa Aighewi, Omowunmi Akinnifesi,Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi, Uju Marshall Nwobodoh, Ojy Okpe, Chief Ibiagbanidokibubo Asenite 'Agbani' Darego, MFR, Victor Ndigwe and Davidson Obennebo who made history as the first Black and African model to win the Elite Model Look world finale in 2016; wearing different attires of Yoruba fashion designs on the runway. Farooq Oreagba, the MD/CEO NG Clearing Limited who has been the "King of Ojude Oba" can show his popular celebrity swagger of class and style of Yoruba dignity and nobility on the stage.

This will increase the global popularity and increase the Nigerian fashion and lifestyle market currently valued at approximately $4.7 billion to $6 billion annually, accounting for about 15% of Sub-Saharan Africa's total fashion market. The broader lifestyle and apparel ecosystem is estimated to be a $30 billion powerhouse, with its GDP contribution currently sitting around $6.1 billion.
