99.99 Percent of Nigerians Have Never Heard of Internet of Things

Do you know that 99.99 percent of Nigerians have never heard of Internet of Things (IoT) even though there are more than 67 million Nigerians on the internet?
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_of_Things
Now the following are 17 'Internet Of Things' Facts Everyone Should Read by Bernard Marr of FORBES.
  1. The majority of people (87%) have not heard of the term ‘Internet of Things’.
  2. ATMs are considered some of the first IoT objects, and went online as far back as 1974.
  3. Back in 2008, there were already more objects connected to the Internet than people.
  4. This year, we will have 4.9 billion connected things.
  5. And some predict that by 2020, the number of Internet-connected things will reach or even exceed 50 billion.
  6.  In 2015, over 1.4 billion smart phones will be shipped and by 2020 we will have a staggering 6.1 billion smartphone users.
  7. The IoT will connect many of the devices we have in our homes, from smart thermostats to smart fridges. Companies like Google GOOGL -0.59% and Samsung understand this. Google bought smart thermostat maker, Nest Labs, for $3.2 billion, and Samsung purchased connected home company SmartThings for $200 million.
  8. By 2020, a quarter of a billion vehicles will be connected to the Internet, giving us completely new possibilities for in-vehicle services and automated driving.
  9. In fact, we already have cars that can drive on their own – Google’s self-driving cars currently average about 10,000 autonomous miles per week.
  10. The global market for wearable devices has grown 223% in 2015, with Fitbit shipping 4.4 million devices and Apple AAPL +2.70% selling 3.6 million Apple Watches.
  11. And yes, Internet-connected clothing is coming. Estimates predict that 10.2 million units of smart clothing will ship by 2020, compared to a meagre 140K units in 2013.
  12. Today, the market for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, used for transmitting data to identify and track objects, is worth $11.1 billion. This is predicted to rise to $21.9 billion in 2020.
  13. Machine-to-machine (M2M) connections will grow from 5 billion at the beginning of this year to 27 billion by 2024, with China taking a 21% share and the U.S. 20%.
  14. GE believes that the “Industrial Internet” (their term for IoT) will add $10 to $15 trillion to global GDP in the next 20 years.
  15. According to estimations by the McKinsey Global Institute, the IoT will have a total economic impact of up to $11 trillion by 2025.
  16. Having a connected kitchen could save the food and beverage industry as much as 15% annually.
  17. CISCO believes the IoT could generate $4.6 trillion over the next ten years for the public sector, and $14.4 trillion for the private sector.

Nigerian Born Actor Boyega Becomes Superstar As Star Wars 7 Breaks Records

Nigerian born British Actor John Boyega Becomes Hollywood Super Star As Star Wars 7 Preview Crashes Websites.
Nigerian born British actor John Boyega has become the talk of the town as the huge demand for advance tickets to "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" crashed the websites of several sellers last night, including AMC Theatres (NYSE:AMC) and Fandango.
I sent him the breaking news minutes after it made headlines yesterday..
Boyega himself flipped over on seeing the official trailer and talked excitedly about his leading role as Finn in the latest Star Wars epic.
He told GQ that the screenplay made him cry even before filming started.
“Finn is dope. His story is so epic. It’s a story that’s never been seen before, but it also mirrors the stories of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. And he’s quirky and charismatic and funny. For me, he was the best character in the script.”
“They’re heavy, those things, and there’s a lot of running involved. I was trained on a high incline treadmill so when it came to it I could sprint around the desert in a leather jacket. They should do a Star Wars weight loss program.”

According the latest reports on Seeking Alpha, early ticket sales for December's Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken IMAX records with more than $6.5M for U.S. screenings, after a new trailer of the film was aired during ESPN's Monday Night Football. IMAX (NYSE:IMAX) said presales for The Force Awakens far outpaced first day sales for 2012's The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers and 2013's Hunger Games: Catching Fire, all in the $1M presale range. The new movie from Disney (NYSE:DIS) will see the return of veterans Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, as well as newcomers Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Adam Driver.

Gambian Prince Attacks Nollywood Stars Over Land Gifts By President of Gambia

Nigerian And Ghanaian Home Video Prostitutes And Hustlers Must Stop Scavenging On Our Meagre Gambian Resources
~ By Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu, Gambian Filmmaker and Scholar on African Cinema

First of all, various Nigerian and Ghanaian media outlets reported that the President of my country HE Alhagie Yahya AJJ Jammeh has recently allocated portions of our Gambian lands to some Nigerian and Ghanaian entertainers. The fact that we Gambians have to know about this from second hand sources speaks volumes on the way we are treated as non-humans by those running our country. Jammeh is a temporal President and not the everlasting private owner of the commonwealth of our Gambian fatherland. I for one respect him and endorse his freedom to do whatever he pleases within the parameters of the Reasonable State and Realpolitik but if he touches certain red lines, I will speak truth to power without fear or favour, affection or ill-will. The senseless wastage of our scarce resources on money-hungry foreign musicians and movie stars is scratching on those red lines. I am therefore calling on the named home video peoples not to rush in developing the land that President Jammeh reportedly allocated them. For over 10 years, we have been reading reports on how Nigerian video film stars, and of late Ghanaian ones, are airlifted into the Gambia to serve as presidential event decorations. They are rewarded millions from our Gambian tax revenues without measurable lasting benefits to our creative economy. If at all the monies are from President Jammeh’s personal savings before he became President of the Republic of The Gambia on the 22 July 1994, I for one would not care. But the funds that are wasted on the Nigerian and Ghanaian hustlers are generated through our taxes and remittances and we have the right to speak out on it. After all, we are the ones sweating for the monies. The Gambian economy is on life-support at the time of writing this piece. Without our Diaspora remittances and the bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), we would have long seen a Burkina Faso-styled mass revolution by the hungry and tired Gambians. President Jammeh’s strength lies on the weaknesses and pettiness within the ranks of those fighting to end his rule. The greedy Nigerian and Ghanaian entertainers “chopping him dry” are too blinded by our free government money, free food and free sex with some local girls to see, feel or understand the silent sufferings of the voiceless Gambians.
