LOS ANGELES, August 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — LG Mobile today announced the upcoming release of “Thumbs”, the new texting documentary that chronicles the race to LG’s 2010 National Texting Championship. In celebration of the documentary’s television debut, LG treated audiences in New York and Los Angeles to a theatrical sneak peek of the texting exposé scheduled to premiere on MTV on Friday, August 19th at 10:00 P.M. ET/PT. Providing an exclusive look at the growing phenomenon of texting among today’s youth, the premieres brought industry influencers and texting enthusiasts together for an in-depth look at the fast- paced world of texting and its rising popularity.

THUMBS director Bill Couturié celebrates with LG National Texting Championship alums at the screening of THUMBS on August 4th in New York City.

Documenting the texting lives and habits of six teens from across the country, “Thumbs” delivers an investigative look at the elaborate world of teenage texters and the integral role mobile phones have come to play in day-to-day communication. A look into the marathon race to the 2010 LG National Texting Championship is also provided by putting viewers right in the action as players get to know their competition and ready their thumbs to compete for the crown.

“LG is proud of its texting legacy and has worked to become a pioneer in the space with its QWERTY devices and on-going programs such as the annual LG National Texting Championship,” said Carl Brown, Director of Trade Marketing for LG Mobile Phones. “Supporting the ‘Thumbs’ documentary allowed LG a unique opportunity to give today’s texters a voice while providing an up-close look at the way texting has undeniably changed the way we communicate.”

“Texting is at the heart of how MTV’s Millennial audience communicates every single day of their lives,” said Chris Linn, Executive Vice President of Programming for MTV. “‘Thumbs’ not only focuses on the competition at the LG National Texting Championship, but also takes viewers behind-the-scenes to reveal exactly how empowering and important this form of communication has become.”

“Thumbs” debuted for the first time in New York earlier this month to a crowd of local media and film industry insiders. Following the “Thumbs” New York premiere, a West Coast audience of Hollywood movers and shakers were invited to screen the documentary and attend a private reception at The Spare Room in the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel where attendees were given the chance to meet the documentary’s producers and ask questions regarding the inspiration behind the film.

LG Mobile Breaks Through 3D Barriers, Highlights Future of 3D Technology at 3D Entertainment Summit

LG Mobile Executive Tim O’Brien Showcases LG THRILL™ 4G exclusively on AT&T, Bringing Glasses-free 3D Smartphone to the United States

NEW YORK, June 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Tim O’Brien, vice president of marketing for LG Mobile, addressed an audience of entertainment industry insiders and influencers yesterday during the 3D Entertainment Summit in a keynote session that examined the importance of technology and innovation in the industry’s 100+ year history. While highlighting consumer insights paving the way for the future of entertainment, LG put the spotlight on mobile 3D. Held in New York in conjunction with Consumer Electronics Week, the Summit is devoted to examining and analyzing the burgeoning confluence of 3D and entertainment.

LG Mobile Executive Tim O’Brien

O’Brien’s keynote illustrated technology’s important role in the evolution of entertainment and culminated with the presentation of LG’s latest technological breakthrough, the LG THRILL™ 4G exclusively on AT&T.

From early forms of entertainment such as black and white TV to the growing popularity of smartphones as today’s hot entertainment platform, O’Brien stressed the importance of the need for continued advancements in technology. LG Mobile will lead the way, contributing to 3D technology adoption with the barrier breaking LG THRILL 4G.

“The objective of the entertainment industry has always been to make the experience more real and life-like,” said O’Brien. “LG will change the game again by giving everyone an easy and accessible way to interact with the content they love – and do it in a more realistic and authentic manner than any 3D experience we’ve seen yet.”

Continuing the trend of technology pushing the boundaries of entertainment, LG Mobile is focusing on addressing the three main barriers to the mass adoption of 3D technology: accessibility, technology and content.

* Accessibility: 3D devices are currently thought of as too expensive, but LG THRILL 4G will be competitively priced for wider accessibility.
* Technology: Using new mobile 3D parallax barrier technology, the LG Thrill 4G eliminates the need for expensive and bulky 3D glasses, making the 3D experience seamless. Additionally, LG THRILL 4G enhances smartphone features with tri-dual configuration technology, including a 1GHz dual-core processor with dual-channels and dual memory, to enhance speed and performance.
* Content: LG consumer insights indicate users most often interact with entertainment on their mobile phones through user generated content and gaming. In a strategic partnership between LG Mobile and YouTube, handheld users will be able to create and share their own 3D content in new and exciting ways. Additionally, in partnership with Gameloft, 3D games come preloaded on LG THRILL 4G.

“With each new technological breakthrough, entertainment becomes more genuine and believable,” acknowledged O’Brien. “3D enabled mobile devices will be the next step in the natural evolution of entertainment technology, and breaking accessibility, technology and content barriers will be crucial in helping make sure all consumers have access to this next generation entertainment platform.”
