There Are More than 135, 000 Refugees Fleeing from Boko Haram - UN

NEW YORK, 20 January 2015 / PRN Africa / -- Women and children make up the vast majority of the latest wave of refugees fleeing violence in northern Nigeria, the United Nations Children's Fund warned today, spotlighting its ongoing efforts to provide basic assistance, including safe water, nutrition, health, education and protection services to affected children in the region.

Nigerian refugees fleeing from Boko Haram insurgents.

“Children are suffering the dire consequences of the conflict in Nigeria, losing their homes, missing out on education and risking their lives,” UNICEF's Christophe Boulierac told reporters in Geneva.

Boko Haram's recent attacks on Baga drove a fresh wave of refugees into neighbouring countries, worsening a humanitarian crisis in the region that has already seen 1 million people displaced from their homes and more than 135,000 seeking refuge in Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

About 9,000 people crossed into Chad this month, a mixture of Nigerian refugees and Chadian returnees, bringing the total number of Nigerian refugees there to over 10,000. More than 100 children arrived without a parent or a caretaker, and Mr. Boulierac said UNICEF would scale-up its presence around Lake Chad, using its office in Mao to distribute lifesaving supplies, like hygiene kits and therapeutic food as well as blankets, clothing, tents and water supply.

In Cameroon, children represent 60 per cent of the 25,000 Nigerian refugees living in Minawao camp, and in Niger, women and children make up 70 per cent of the 100,000 Nigerian refugees and returnees.

Mr. Boulierac said a recent assessment of children in the Minawao camp revealed an alarming rate of malnutrition, noting that the UNICEF is working with the Red Cross to provide nutritional screening and treatment and to create child-friendly spaces where children could receive psycho-social support. In addition, the agency built 10 clean water facilities and 160 latrines, and distributed 1,300 hygiene kits.

Vaccination efforts in Niger saw over 96,000 children protected against measles between 28 December and 3 January, while school capacities are being reinforced so refugee children could study alongside locals.

UNICEF is working also with displaced children in Nigeria, where more than 65,000 children were being treated for severe acute malnutrition. Trained community volunteers have reached over 13,000 children with psychosocial support, and more than three million children have received vitamin A supplements.

Mr. Boulierac's briefing comes the day after Security Council Members condemned in the ‘strongest terms' the recent escalation in attacks conducted by Boko Haram, and expressed deep concern that the activities of the Islamist extremist group, including a spate of shocking suicide bombings across northern Nigeria, are undermining peace and stability in the West and Central African region and some ‘may amount to crimes against humanity.'

Overall, Boko Haram violence in Nigeria may have forced at least one million people to flee their homes, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said today, citing a combination of IOM and Nigerian government data on people displaced from 10 states including Borno, the heart of Boko Haram activity.

Only Muhammad Buhari Has the Experience To Guaranty the National Security of Nigeria

Only Gen. Muhammad Buhari (retd) Has the Experience To Guaranty the National Security of Nigeria.

For the 2015 Presidential Election in Nigeria, there is only one presidential candidate with the executive experience to guarantee the national security of Africa's most populous country with increasing challenges of local and global threats of terrorism. And that presidential candidate is Gen.Muhammad Buhari (retd), of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is the only presidential candidate who has the proven experience and expertise of dealing with Islamic terrorism in Nigeria when as the 7th Head of State of Nigeria from December 31, 1983 – August 27, 1985, he successfully crushed the Maitatsine Sect terrorists led by Musa Makaniki between February 27 and March 5, 1984 in Yola and he finally put an end to the Maitatsine Sect terrorists after their April 26-28, 1985 attacks in Gombe (Bauchi State). And Musa Makaniki fled to Cameroon.

President Barack Obama of the United States of America in his 2015 State of the Union address to Congress on January 20, said: "Hire a veteran if they want to get the job done".
.And General Muhammad Buhari is the only veteran who has the guts of a brave, competent and efficient Commander-in-Chief and has zero-tolerance for corruption.
Since, the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan has failed to do the job, Nigerians must elect Muhammad Buhari to get the job done!
Between 1980, and 2009 more than 50 religious crises occurred in Nigeria with the consequent economic, political and social implications. See table I below for details. http://www.academicexcellencesociety.com/inter_religious_conflicts.html

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is a social-democratic political party in Nigeria, formed on February 6, 2013, in an alliance by Nigeria's three biggest opposition parties; the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)and currently APC is the biggest and largest party in Nigeria and Africa by the populations of the APC states, including Lagos and Kano. And APC has 171 members in the House of Representatives while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has 167 members. APC was admitted as a consultative member into the Socialist International on December 12, 2014.

Making Mockery of the Military Past of Gen. Muhammad Buhari is Making Mockery of the Nigerian Armed Forces

For the National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Wale Oladipo calling General Muhammad Buhari (retd) semi-illiterate is a mockery of the Nigerian Armed Forces, because that is an insult on all the Nigerian military generals like retired Generals Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Badamasi Babaginda, Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar, Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma and the entire Nigerian graduates of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) of their era.

When President Goodluck Jonathan insults the military past of General Muhammad Buhari, he is insulting all the Nigerian Army generals and junior officers. They still have their military camaraderie, because when you offend one, you have offended all.

Why There Will Be Change of Government in 2015.

Sai Buhari!!!

There will be change of government in 2015.

  • The missing Chibok school girls are praying and waiting for the change.
  • The internally displaced people are praying and waiting for the change.
  • The over 40 million jobless youths are praying and waiting for the change
  • The hundreds of thousands of undergraduates who don't have good hostels and toilets in government colleges and universities are praying and waiting for the change.

(life was 1000 times better and safer in Nigerian colleges and universities when Gen. Muhammad Buhari (retd) was head of state and he will restore the lost glory of these universities as the new president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015,)

  • The parents and guardians of over 10 million children out of school in Nigeria are praying and waiting for the change.
  • The millions of helpless masses in the middle belt and northern Nigeria living in daily fear of the Boko Haram marauders are praying and waiting for the change.
  • Thousands of the civil servants who were deprived and starved for months, because President Goodluck Jonathan's incompetent government did not pay their salaries are praying and waiting for the change.
  • 2015 will end the reign of impunity of the corrupt and incompetent government of the PDP in Nigeria.
"Nigeria had continued to worsen under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan despite the fact that he was the first doctorate degree holder to become the President of Nigeria.
“If I may add, how has the Ph.D of the President helped this country?"
~ Constitutional lawyer, Prof. Itse Sagay.
Every vote for Buhari is a vote for a better, richer and safer Nigeria.
Where criminals and corrupt politicians will not go unpunished.

Buhari is Qualified To Contest 2015 Presidential Election - Prof. Itse Sagay

General Muhammad Buhari (retd) in his Presidential Campaign Office.
Constitutional lawyer, Prof. Itse Sagay, says the qualification Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has is equivalent to a Master’s degree.Sagay, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said this while reacting to a claim by another senior advocate, Mr. Mike Ozekhome, that Buhari was not qualified to contest because he could not provide his certificate.

Sagay said there was nowhere in the constitution where it was stated that a candidate of a political party must provide his certificate.

He said Buhari attended the Military Training College in Kaduna; the Mons Officer Cadet School in the United Kingdom; and the Army War College in the United States.

He said anyone that did not have a secondary school certificate could not have attended such prestigious military schools.

CNN To Use Drones for Getting News

FAA Grants CNN Permission to Fly Drones as Test for News-gathering

After receiving preliminary approval from the FAA, Cable news channel CNN plans to study the use of drones as a tool for broadcast journalism. CNN announced an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration that will allow the news organization to fly the unmanned aircraft despite the commercial ban on drones. CNN will report its findings to the FAA over the next two years, which will help shape the agency’s upcoming rules for these aircraft. Drones are already used for reporting in other countries and many times illegally by freelancers reporting in the U.S.

This is a different type of drone regulation than the FAA’s current exceptions for select movie production aerial services. Currently, those companies have to notify the FAA three days in advance of their filming. However, with the immediacy required to cover breaking news, CNN wants the FAA to consider regulating news drones in the same way that they regulate news helicopters.  The FAA will decide on the final rules based on CNN’s testing.

NBC is also in negotiations with the FAA to do similar drone testing while some media groups believe that the FAA’s strict policies on drones violate the First Amendment and have sought legal remedy via the courts.

Chinese Telecoms Giant Cancels Contract Over PDP Posters

Chinese Telecoms giant cancels contract over PDP Posters

Chinese Telecoms services giant Huawei has cancelled its street lamp pole outdoor contract, with Lagos based outdoor advertising agency Touchpoint Limited over illegal deployment of Goodluck Jonathan campaign materials on poles paid for by the company.

Huawei had secured the old tollgate location by Motorways, Ojota, Lagos, for a period of one year and had paid the mandatory Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) fee for their campaign. Sources at Huawei said the deployment of Goodluck Jonathan campaign materials alongside theirs was unacceptable and therefore had no alternative but to cancel the contract.

Touch Point in a statement said ‘Our client, Huawei cancelled the contract saying it was due to the breach by the PDP to run a parallel campaign on poles solely reserved for Huawei’’.

The statement went on further: ‘Elections should not be used as an avenue to disrupt the honest business of hardworking Nigerians. There are procedures for deployment of items on street lamp poles and, going through this crude means is not only damaging, it is unfair, inconsiderate and above all illegal by a political party that seemingly prides itself on the rule of law. I have spoken with my lawyers and we are considering legal action over this inconsiderate action by the PDP and its agents’’.
