19 Mistakes From Last Flight To Abuja

Obi Emelonye's "Last Flight To Abuja" – The full movie (Nollywood Movies 2013) with over 1,493,241 views so far on YouTube is the number one on the Top 10 Most Watched Videos in Nigeria in 2013 excluding Music, but Nollymovies reported the following 19 mistakes in the best selling movie.

The movie opened with radio voice-over of the "Good Morning Nigeria Show" with "Manny and the Angels" on Cool FM, Lagos. In 2006, the Good Morning Nigeria Show was hosted by Dan Foster and not Manny and the Angels.

Continuity Error:-
As the movie starts a large building is shown and "CNS Headquarters" is written on the screen. When they show the board meeting taking place in the building, Chief Nike (Jide Kosoko) refers to their office as "TNS"

Other:-
The Flamingo name and logo on the plane is obviously printed on paper and then pasted on the fuselage/body of the plane. How much would re-spraying that part of the plane have cost?

submitted by @IamNotJuke (twitter)
Continuity Error:- The first time the Captain George (Anthony Monjaro) spoke to the passengers, he wasnt smiling. He says "the weather, a cool 31 degrees celsius...thank you for choosing Flamingo *Airways, enjoy your flight". The second time, while supposedly repeating the SAME SPEECH, he says "The weather in Abuja, a cool 31 degrees celsius...thank you for choosing Flamingo *Airlines, enjoy yourself."
Continuity Error:- Captain George (Anthony Monjaro) radioed the control tower and asked for permission to take off from runway 2 but the plane is shown to have taken off from runway 15.

Continuity Error:- In the first run, Mr Adesola (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) stood up and interrupted the conversation between Suzie (Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde) and David (Jim Iyke) before heading to the toilet. When there's a replay of the SAME SCENE, he goes straight to the toilet without interrupting their conversation.

Factual Error:- Mrs Angela Efe (Chidera Orji) is seen using an iPad as her husband returns home having missed his flight. The first iPad wasn’t released until 2010 which was four years after the movie was supposedly set.
Continuity Error:-
After the Captain George (Anthony Monjaro) insists to the control tower about an emergency landing, the cabin shows and all of a sudden, there’s no smoke.

Factual Error:-
Considering how the plane crashed and all the fire, should that many people have survived? The survivors all look in very good shape with just a little dirt.

Other:-
Obvious sponsorship advertisements over-emphasizing the sponsors' brands. E.g. Cool FM, Diamond Bank, Nigeria Info, Zinox Computers, Wazobia FM.

Continuity Error:-
The crying girl, Anietie (Abigail Oyinkansola) who refuses to let her dad travel cries in the car, walks away from the car grinning and is seen crying again the second her father stops.

Other:-
Kevin Efe (Uche Odoputa) practically hands his phone to the thief who supposedly snatches the phone from him while he used it.

Factual Error:- The magazine on which Jimi (Sam Ajibola) signs his autograph for Mukhtar, "Whats Inside Lagos", wasn’t available until 2010.

Factual Error:-
The Elderly Man (Olumide Bakare) was travelling for a surgery for diabetes. Problem is, diabetes treatment does not require surgery.

Factual Error:-
Dr. Gina (Rachel Ekiama) checks Charles' temperature with stethoscope. A stethoscope is an acoustic medical device used for listening to internal sounds. A thermometer should have been used to check his temperature. Dr Gina also uses a Blackberry Torch 3 which wasn’t available until 2011.
submitted by @HandleOfTheYear (twitter)

Factual Error:-
A car battery is seen being loaded onto the plane. A car battery is a corrosive and is therefore internationally prohibited from being loaded on an airplane.

Other:-
On their way from the airport Mrs Ime Ibong looks at a police convoy and says "Is that not the governor?" to which her husband replies "that looks like my chairman, Chief Nike". The SUVs they both looked at were tinted. How did they see through the tinted glasses?

Other:-
As Soibifa (Omalicha Iyasara) struggles with Mr Adesola (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) in the hotel room, she falls on her right hand which is shown to be placed between her head and the broken glass, implying her head had no direct contact with the broken glass table which supposedly killed her.

Factual Error:-
After all the passengers leave the plane, David (Jim Iyke) tries to help Mr Adesola (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) out, abandons him and runs out as the plane explodes. Now the explosion is shown to have started before David got to the rear exit. An explosion of that magnitude should be enough to kill him. Even if it doesn’t, he should have serious burns and injuries. Right?

Famous British Actor Rudolph Walker Replaces Joseph Marcell in Invasion 1897

Famous British Actor Rudolph Walker Replaces Joseph Marcell in Invasion 1897

Famous Caribbean born British Actor Rudolph Walker, OBE, has replaced St. Lucian-born English actor Joseph Marcell in Lancelot Imasuen’s historical epic film Invasion 1897.
“This afternoon we signed Rudolph Walker to play a role in Invasion 1897,” said Lancelot Imasuen Friday December 20, as we met in his busy Lagos studios to discuss the progress of the film and his short horror film for The ABCs of Death 2.
“Joseph Marcell couldn't make our new date for shooting in London, because of his other schedules. We will be filming in London before the end of the month. And Rudolph has always been my first choice to play a special role in Invasion 1897,” he added.
His London based associate producers Joe Ehigiamusoe and Julius Imabe of J2 Konsult Inc, in the UK manage the business of Lancelot Imasuen in Europe.

Lancelot Imasuen and his associates.

The British actor was the first black actor to appear in a major British TV series for his breakthrough role as Bill in the sitcom Love Thy Neighbour and currently popular for his role as Patrick Truman in the BBC One TV soap opera Eastenders, you can see on BBC1 and BBC3 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and the Sunday Omnibus.

Rudolph Walker is happily married to Dounne Alexander, MBE, an accomplished Caribbean born British spiritual herbalist, publisher, author, motivational speaker, health campaigner and award winning business pioneer, voted one of the 100 most influential black people in British history for the 2000 millennium (with her contribution was recorded by the BBC and is stored in the British National Library for posterity).
Mr. Walker is still very much agile even at 74. And he said: ‘An Actor's life for me is one which keeps you creative; forever developing, growing, flourishing and enriching, yourself and others. Therefore you cannot afford to become complacent or relaxed for too long… hence retirement is never a choice; you simply go on to ‘the end.’
Another popular English actor in the film is Charles "Chucky" Venn known for his roles as Curtis Alexander in Sky One's Dream Team, Tremaine Gidigbi in Footballers' Wives and Ray Dixon in EastEnders.

Invasion 1897 is the most anticipated film to celebrate the Nigeria Centenary in 2014 (modern day Nigeria came into being on January 1, 1914), and to mark the centenary of the death of the great King of Benin, Omo n’Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi in exile in Calabar on January 14, 1914, Lancelot Imasuen will host special guests from corporate Nigeria and leading journalists at his Lagos studios on January 14, 2014.

Top Nigerian actors playing lead roles in the epic movie include Charles Inojie, Paul Obazele, Segun arinze, Mike Omoriegbe as Oba Ovonrawmen and the late Justus Esiri in a cameo role.

Did you know that five years before the death of Omo n’Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi, the British Consul-General Moor, who captured, deposed and sent him on exile in Calabar committed suicide in Barnes, Middlesex in 1909. The great Ovonramwen must have cursed him for no one commits such a great sacrilege and escapes the wrath of the Benin Kingdom.

Omo n’Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi.

Invasion 1897 is the untold story of the Benin Expedition of 1897 by the United Kingdom force of 1,200 under Admiral Sir Harry Rawson who captured, burned, and looted Benin City, bringing to an end the West African Kingdom of Benin.

South Africa Fails To Deliver Nelson Mandela's Education Vision

17 Dec 2013 09:55 Africa/Lagos

South Africa fails to deliver Nelson Mandela's education vision

VADUZ, Liechtenstein, December 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
http://www.worldreview.info

South Africa is facing an education crisis. It has failed to uphold the dream of former South Africa leader Nelson Mandela - to provide equal opportunity to the nation's young through education, writes World Review author Dr Pauline Dixon, senior lecturer in International Development and Education at the University of Newcastle, UK.

'Mr Mandela, who led the nation from apartheid to democracy, believed that education was key to emancipation, social mobility - and to the future prosperity of  South Africa . Yet this principle has still yet to be realised,' she says.

Results from South Africa's Department of Basic Education school monitoring survey in 2011, which looked only at public schools, shows that minimum standards were not met in 14 out of 15 indicators. Main concerns include teaching posts not being filled, the lack of curriculum being covered in a week, and the high number of pupils who are unable to access library facilities and enjoy basic physical infrastructure such as school buildings, grounds, furniture, equipment and apparatus believed essential to impart education.
'The teaching of mathematics in rural and poor schools is the worst in southern and eastern Africa ,' says Dr Dixon. 'Children in poorer African countries such as  Lesotho  and  Zambia  are out performing children in  South Africa . Findings by the Centre for Development and Enterprise show that less than one quarter of Class 6 teachers were able to answer Class 6 maths questions correctly.'
'It is not surprising that between 2000 and 2010 the number of public schools dropped by nine per cent while the number of independent schools increased by more than 44 per cent. The number of pupils enrolled at independent schools has risen by more than 50 per cent in that period.'
South Africa's education system is now seeing an alternative developing - a de facto privatisation of schooling. Studies show that there is a small, but growing low-fee private schooling sector in South Africa.
The growth in independent education is relatively new. But it is displaying innovation and a keenness for people to get involved - driven by two factors - profit and the demand created by the inadequacy of public schooling.

'Some argue that South Africans have forgotten that change can come from the grassroots, from ordinary people acting in their own best interest. But in years to come the expansion and growth of low-cost private schools - through parents voting with their feet - might overcome some of the acquiescence to state domination.'

 About Kenneth Gyang:

Kenneth Gyang on the set of Cinema Kpatakpata's first feature film, "Confusion Na Wa" with award winning Nollywood hunk OC Ukeje and Ikechukwu Omenaihe.

I have been following the captivating career of Kenneth Gyang as an ambitious young filmmaker since he was 19 when I interviewed him in 2006 for the highly esteemed Black Film Maker magazine, the foremost publication on blacks in the film industry, published in the UK and that interview “Young At Art” is still distributed widely by HighBeam Research and followed by my special focus on THE BEST OF NOLLYWOOD in the same year.

Kenneth Gyang is a young filmmaker in Nigeria and was born in Barkin Ladi of Plateau State, Nigeria. He studied Film Production at the National Film Institute in Jos and screenwriting at Gaston Kaboré's IMAGINE in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Two of his short films as well as a script titled "Game of Life" were selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus 2006 and "Mummy Lagos" was well received as an official competition entry. "Mummy Lagos" was also selected for the Sithengi Talent Campus as part of the Cape Town World Cinema Festival in South Africa. His film "Omule" won Best Documentary Film at the 1st Nigerian Students International Film Festival in 2006 and "Mummy Lagos" also won Best Film at the Nigerian Field Society Awards organized by the German Cultural Centre, Goethe-Institut, in Lagos as well as the Jury Special Mention at the ANIWA Festival in Ghana. Kenneth has worked with the BBC World Service Trust, directing their high quality TV drama "Wetin Dey", which was presented at the International Emmy World Television Festival in New York City, USA.. He has also worked with Communicating For Change as an Associate Producer on "Bayelsian Silhouettes", a series of seven short films on HIV/AIDS and he also co-wrote, produced and directed "Finding Aisha" TV series for the Nigerian production company Televista.

Kenneth Gyang on the definition of Nollywood:

I think this whole issue of ‘Nollywood, no, not Nollywood’ is being stretched to its breaking point so much so that at this year’s FESPACO, the prestigious film festival in Africa, Professor Wole Soyinka presented a paper about it called “A name is more than the tyranny of taste”. He talked about how in Yorubaland a name may mould a child so you don’t find any Yoruba parent giving their babies names that embed evil meanings. Personally I’ll say this, Nollywood followed in the Bollywood/Hollywood bandwagon. When the Indian film industry in Mumbai was tagged Bollywood, no-one cut it some slack. A whole ton of look-alike films were churned out in overwhelming quantity but with time, they started raising their game. In the opposite direction, France is synonymous with art films but you still have tons of popcorn movies emanating from there. For me, the totality of films coming from Nigeria make up what is known as Nollywood and I’ll rather spend my time making films that matter than worry myself with the name of industry.

"Many avid supporters of Africa believe that aid given to Africa actually hurts Africa," said Ahmed Zikrem, CEO & founder, Jumpstart Africa.  "We propose a new way of giving directly to an entrepreneur who is going to start a business that will solve a problem, provide jobs and stimulate local economies.  We want to empower the people of Africa – not give them a fish but help them to fish on their own."

Jumpstart Africa has built strong relationships with top innovation centers, incubators, and associations throughout Africa to help people reach out and support its initiative.  Some of the exciting projects that will be on JumpstartAfrica.com at launch include:
  • Unmanned Ariel Vehicle : Moses Gichanga from Kenya has developed a low-cost Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology to help monitor and prevent poaching and the slaughter of wildlife in Africa.
  • Solar Cooking Stove : Rose Twine from Uganda has developed a low-cost smokeless solar stove that can also charge your phone and light your house for the price of only two months of regular charcoal consumption.
  • TeaBag Water Filter : Professor Eugene Cloete and his team at Stellenbosch University in South Africa have developed an affordable water filter called a "teabag" that fits into the neck of a standard sized water bottle.
Zikrem continued: "Did you know that many of the products used on a day-to-day basis by consumers around the world were invented by Africans - the traffic light, the elevator and the pressure cooker?  Obviously, these kinds of ideas have greatly impacted people worldwide and we have noticed that Africa's talented entrepreneurs are growing in numbers and are creating innovative solutions that will propel Africa's future."
