Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson star once again as gods at war in Wrath of the Titans : An IMAX 3D Experience. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film is the sequel to the global box office hit Clash of the Titans.

The IMAX release of Wrath of the Titans will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

About Wrath of the Titans

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington)—the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year-old son, Helius.

But unbeknownst to Perseus, a struggle for supremacy has been raging between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing hold of their immortality, as well as control over the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous Underworld.

Now, Perseus cannot ignore his true calling as Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switches loyalties and makes a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titan's strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned…and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the Underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Jonathan Liebesman directed the film from a screenplay by Dan Mazeau & David Leslie Johnson, story by Greg Berlanti & David Leslie Johnson & Dan Mazeau, based on characters created by Beverley Cross. The film was produced by Basil Iwanyk, who also produced the previous hit "Clash of the Titans," and Polly Johnsen. The executive producers are Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Callum McDougall, Kevin De La Noy and Louis Leterrier.

During the signing ceremony Prof. Jean Pierre Onvehoun Ezin, Commissioner of the Human Resources, Science and Technology, AUC said “Science and Technology in Africa within the last decade have been tremendous evolution, so more that the African Union Commission is championing the scientific awards at national, regional and continental levels....”

"The signature today is very encouraging for all of us who believe that innovation is key for maintaining high growth rates in today's and tomorrow's increasingly competitive world", said Gary QUINCE, EU Ambassador to the African Union.

These projects on applied sciences are designed to respond to improve the living conditions of African population. More specifically, it aims to create networking among African scientific community and to build bridges with European partners while performing joint researches by the transfer of knowledge and know-how through a 'learning by doing' approach.

Today's signature ceremony of grant contracts is the result of the "First Call for Proposal" of an amount of 7 million Euros which are limited to some strategic priority actions: Post-harvest and Agriculture, renewable and Sustainable Energy, water and sanitation.

The African Union Commission, through its Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology, is the Delegated Regional Authority for the Africa Component of the programme.

The Second Call for Proposal has been launched on 16 January 2012 with the aim to engage 7 million Euro on new grant contracts by the end of the current year.

"Lucy" Lived Among Close Cousins: Discovery of Foot Fossil Confirms Two Human Ancestor Species Co-Existed

CLEVELAND, March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A team of scientists announces the discovery of a 3.4 million-year-old partial foot from the Woranso-Mille area of the Afar region of Ethiopia. The fossil foot did not belong to "Lucy's" species, Australopithecus afarensis, the famous early human ancestor. Research on this new specimen indicates that more than one species of early human ancestor existed between 3 and 4 million years ago with different methods of locomotion. The analysis will be published in the March 29, 2012 issue of the journal Nature.

The partial foot was found in February 2009 in an area known as Burtele.

"The Burtele partial foot clearly shows that at 3.4 million years ago, Lucy's species, which walked upright on two legs, was not the only hominin species living in this region of Ethiopia," said lead author and project leader Dr. Yohannes Haile-Selassie, curator of physical anthropology at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History. "Her species co-existed with close relatives who were more adept at climbing trees, like 'Ardi's' species, Ardipithecus ramidus, which lived 4.4 million years ago."

The partial foot is the first evidence for the presence of at least two pre-human species with different modes of locomotion contemporaneously living in eastern Africa around 3.4 million years ago. While the big toe of the foot in Lucy's species was aligned with the other four toes for human-like bipedal walking, the Burtele foot has an opposable big toe like the earlier Ardi.

"This discovery was quite shocking," said co-author and project co-leader Dr. Bruce Latimer of Case Western Reserve University. "These fossil elements represent bones we've never seen before. While the grasping big toe could move from side to side, there was no expansion on top of the joint that would allow for expanded range of movement required for pushing off the ground for upright walking. This individual would have likely had a somewhat awkward gait when on the ground."

Using the argon-argon radioactive dating method, the fossils were determined to be younger than 3.46 million years, said co-author Dr. Beverly Saylor of Case Western Reserve University. "Nearby fossils of fish, crocodiles and turtles, and physical and chemical characteristics of sediments show the environment was a mosaic of river and delta channels adjacent to an open woodland of trees and bushes."

China Debuts US$100 Smart-Phone; May Influence Global Mobile Industry

China Debuts US$100 Smart-Phone; May Influence Global Mobile Industry

BEIJING, March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- China's mobile phone market is showing a new trend, with the "US$100 cost-effective mobile phone" making its debut in it first.

On March 26th at 3:00 p.m. BJT, Chongqing Guohong Technology Development held a new product presentation meeting in Beijing for its Shuidi handset, at which the company announced the official launch of the handset and its availability at China's shopping website 360buy.com. The new handset incorporates leading-edge technologies including the Android 2.3.5 system and the 800Mhz processor, and its concept of "being a smart-phone costing only US$100" may influence the global mobile industry. The debut of Guohong's Shuidi is expected to cause quite a stir both in China and abroad, according to industry analysts.

U.S. mobile users pay more emphasis on product practicability

The mobile market worldwide has seen increasingly frequent upgrades of products, with the development of science and technology. Over recent years, Apple has set off a craze for smart-phones. Data show that today electronics users pay more emphasis on practicability when choosing products. Most mobile phone users are more concerned with the end-use of a product than with its luxuriousness and brand value. It is believed to be especially true for U.S. users. Americans may be more willing to choose the Shuidi than an Apple handset which features the same functionalities but is more expensive. This reflects a pragmatic attitude.

China's domestically-made smart phones held a more than 50 per cent share in the domestic market, according to the results of a user survey between H2 2011 and February 2012. Samsung was the number one foreign mobile phone maker in the period, with a market share of 24 per cent, while Apple maintained only a single-digit market share. The dominance of domestically-made phones was extremely rare in the past. The availability of Chongqing Guohong Technology Development's Shuidi phones is expected to further consolidate and improve domestically-made phones' dominance in future.

Prospects for low price, practical phones remain promising

The Shuidi phones will be more best-selling in foreign markets than in the domestic market. Foreign operators are not focusing merely on expensive products. In fact, only few consumers prefer mobile phones with unit price of US$400 produced by Samsung and Apple. China's domestically-made Shuidi featuring the same configurations is priced at only US$100. Chongqing Guohong Technology Development allows consumers to get a top quality product for an unbelievable low price, in a move to grasp larger market share. As for a mobile phone, hardware is important, but the purchase cost, hardware performance, software optimization and cloud application are more important. Considering the similar configurations, cost competitiveness undoubtedly is the key success factor.

Steve Jobs' death has had a profoundly negative effect on Apple, resulting in lower-than-expected sales of iPhone 4s. Apple may need to rebuild its corporate image and reputation among users. However, how could Apple outrival low-price Shuidi, as they have the similar exterior and configurations but the price difference exceeds four times. This may be the most serious challenge posed by China's Shuidi to Apple.

TED Names World-Changing 2012 TEDGlobal Fellows

TED, devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, selects 19 young innovators to participate in the TED Fellows program and deliver talks at TEDGlobal, June 25-29, 2012, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

New class hails from Afghanistan, Brazil, Canada, China, Curacao, Egypt, Italy, Kenya, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, Serbia, Taiwan, Uganda, UK and the US.
TED to begin accepting applications for next class of TED Fellows on May 28, 2012.

NEW YORK, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TED, the nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, today announces the new class of TEDGlobal Fellows, a diverse group of innovators from around the world who will give talks this summer at TEDGlobal 2012 in Edinburgh, a selection of which will then be posted on TED.com. The TED Fellows program hand-picks world-changing innovators from around the globe and brings them to the TED stage, helping to raise international awareness of their remarkable work as well as nurture their careers through ongoing coaching, mentoring and collaboration within the TED community.

Since the program launched in 2009, TED Fellows have scaled a platform that enables users to crowdsource crisis information, created revolutionary open-source blueprints for building tractors and other industrial machinery from scratch, and have inspired students to study neuroscience through self-led, counterintuitive experiments with cockroaches -- among many other game-changing projects. To date, the TED Fellows program has honored 287 Fellows from 75 different countries and has received a total of 6500 applications from from around the world.

"The 19 Fellows who make up the 2012 TEDGlobal class have already demonstrated breathtaking accomplishment," said Tom Rielly, the director of the TED Fellows program. "For example, we have a Kenyan self-taught sculptor who transforms 'junk' into art, including sublime eyewear, a Ugandan prison activist who works to reintegrate African prisoners into their communities and a coral scientist who is studying the impact of climate change on marine life. All of them are at dramatic inflection points in their careers, and we hope to help them accelerate their progress, no matter what their domain."

This year's Fellows come from 17 countries across multiple disciplines. Among them are:

Ola Orekunrin , a Nigerian healthcare entrepreneur and founder of Flying Doctors Nigeria, an enterprise providing urgent helicopter, airplane ambulance and evacuation services across West Africa.

Amanullah Mojadidi , an Afghan artist whose work explores "the geography of self" through combining traditional story lines and postmodern, parodist narrative strategies intentionally blurring the lines between fact and fiction, documentation and imagination.

Alexander McLean , a British activist and founder of African Prisons Project, a Uganda-based organization working to improve the lives of men, women and children living in African prisons through healthcare, education, access to justice and community reintegration.

Kristen Marhaver , an American coral reef biologist and science communications enthusiast based in Curacao, studying how certain bacteria can be used to increase settlement and survival of Caribbean corals.

See below for the full list of the 2012 TEDGlobal Fellows.

As part of the program, all TED Fellows will participate as full members of this year's annual TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh, where they will deliver their own TED Talks before an audience of hundreds. Prior to the conference, the Fellows will gather for a three-day event to feature high-level workshops on subjects such as presentation skills to raising funds. After the conference, the best of the Fellows' talks will be posted on TED.com, catapulting their work onto the global stage.

The program nurtures the careers of Fellows by connecting them with professional coaching and mentoring services throughout the year via SupporTED, a program created by The Harnisch Foundation and Renee Freedman & Company. Fellows also participate in the TED community by sharing their discoveries on the TED Fellows blog, contributing to TEDx events and exchanging information, inspiration and ideas through the just-launched Fellows network (fellows.ted.com).

The TED Fellows program is made possible by the visionary support of the Bezos family, the Harnisch Foundation, the Dhanam Foundation, Arcus Foundation and numerous private donors. For more information about or to support the TED Fellows program, visit http :// www . ted . com / fellows.

TED will be accepting submissions for the next round of TED Fellows starting May 28, 2012. Please visit www . ted . com / fellows / apply to learn more. The program seeks individuals between 21 and 45 years of age (though anyone over 18 is eligible) who demonstrate remarkable achievement in their fields of endeavor. It focuses on candidates from six regions: Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, though candidates from all regions are welcome.

Nigerian Police Officers Need More Than Clean Uniform

Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, the Inspector General of Nigeria Police Force.

~ By John Egbeazien Oshodi, Ph.D.

Inspector General of Police, first clean the inside then the outside Dress.

Sir, as you may know most psychologists are more interested about the inner side of humans including security and law enforcement agents followed by interest in the external being as in one’s particular dress or style of dressing.

Sir, a new dress doesn't get us anywhere at this time as it is the official life, and the life that an officer portrays in the public that matters more. The real beauty on the outside of an officer is a reflection of an officer’s inside in terms of attractive attitude, positive characteristics, character fitness, performance conduct, fitness-for-duty, insight and judgment.

Nigerian Police Camouflage.

Sir, even with the best form of dressing, external presentation or image in a new recruit or a long term serving officer undesirable personality characteristics or other psychological challenges do not vanish simply because of a new wear, instead these disturbances get deeper and become more steadier.

New dressing will not reduce an officer’s psychological vulnerabilities during service; a new physical image will not reduce or help discover abnormal or pathological traits, instead will only successfully and quietly cover disturbed identities and characters.

A new dress will not improve intelligence, self-control, emotional stability, and honest dealings; a new wear will not improve moral uprightness, integrity, reputation, cooperativeness and even physical or medical fitness.

Sir, giving that one of the main support to psychological healthiness is in the manner and style of one’s dress or image, as physical image usually persists through one’s inner life, let’s find a way to work on the psychological qualities-of-an-officer which usually means passing a series or battery of psychological/personality tests. Thereafter, any new law enforcement dress or image as well as a change in uniform could be welcomed more by the public.

Sir, even if the best form of dressing is introduced a non-improvement in an officer’s living, residential, financial and general working conditions will further worsen his or her mental and emotional state thereby making the new wear or cover-up virtually a financial throwaway. The Nigerian public and the world are on the side of new changes in the police and what they actually met is for the President and the Inspector General of Police, is to set a new course of new changes in the police atmosphere, beginning with the cleaning of the inside of the Police personnel which could make the outside become more cleaner.

African Union Commission (AUC) Communiqué on the Candidacy of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the post of World Bank President

ADDIS ABABA, March 26, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The African Union Commission (AUC) attaches great importance to the on-going selection exercise for the next President of the World Bank and is happy to note the commitment to an open, transparent and merit-based process.

The World Bank is the premier global institution that provides support to Developing Countries, and is a major player in addressing wide-ranging global development issues. It is therefore an institution of great importance to Africa, and has been a principal partner in assisting the continent's socio-economic transformation, consistent with its core mission.

The crux of development issues in the world today really resides in Africa, and therefore, the success of the World Bank in achieving its mandate will be judged, to a large extent, by its accomplishments on the continent. It will also be judged by the degree to which it is able to complement its lending and technical assistance and advisory activities with facilitation support for knowledge sharing among developing countries, through effective South-South exchanges to tackle issues of common interest. Finally, the AUC believes that an effective World Bank must continue to play a proactive role, jointly with other partners, in tackling global economic growth and financial stability issues in a volatile and uncertain world, as well as provide leadership in the domain of global public goods, such as environment and climate change. For this purpose, the World Bank needs to have at its helm someone with deep knowledge, broad experience and expertise in a wide range of development issues. It also needs someone who has proven capable, over the years, of working effectively both at the local, national and international levels, and in connecting the different parts to foster synergy and complementarity.

The AUC is pleased to note that Africa has such a nominee in the person of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who possesses undisputed credentials in terms of her technical and managerial expertise, as well as a strong track record as a development professional, both inside and outside the World Bank. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has spent more than two decades in the World Bank, rising through the ranks to the top management level as Managing Director. At the same time, she brings on board a rich experience of managing a very complex economy. As Minister of Finance for Nigeria – Africa's most populous country, she has demonstrated capacity to successfully drive reforms, having dealt effectively with a variety of issues. In her recent expanded role as Coordinating Minister for the Economy, she has also been adept in managing cross-sectoral issues, ranging from agriculture to health, education and infrastructure. On another level, Dr. Okonjo-Iwealahas honed her diplomatic skills as Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs during the course of her career.

She has worked extensively on Africa, but she combines this with experience of handling Emerging Economy/Middle-Income country issues across the globe, having had deep involvement with World Bank's work program and other initiatives in East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa. She has also led numerous initiatives of the World Bank, including the Global Food Price Crisis Response Program, the Global Agricultural and Food Security Program, the South-South Knowledge Exchange Program, and the Stolen Assets Recovery (STAR) Initiative. Dr. Okonjo-Iwealais also globally known for her work on gender issues, focusing on economic empowerment of girls and women, for which she has won global recognition. She has earned tremendous respect and credibility working with major shareholders of the World Bank in different capacities, who acknowledge her deep passion for development and strong drive for results. As Chair of IDA 16 Replenishment under World Bank's President Zoellick, she led negotiations that culminated in the contribution of $49.3 Billion by donor countries to assist the poorest countries.

The challenge of addressing development in today's complex world requires a multi-sectoral expertise. It requires a demonstrated ability to draw on knowledge, expertise and experience in a wide range of areas, and to manage the interplay of these. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala's impeccable credentials, including depth and breadth of knowledge, rich and varied experience, make her eminently qualified and the best candidate for the post of World Bank President. She epitomizes the kind of visionary leadership, courage and innovation needed for the Bank today. She will hit the ground running in leading the Bank. The AUC, on behalf of African countries, is pleased to endorse Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's candidacy in the strongest possible terms.

AUC's support reinforces the decision of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, who, at their meeting today in Addis Ababa, endorsed her as Africa's sole candidate for the Presidency of the World Bank.
