Tax Scam Costs Africa $15 Billion Each Year

Tax Scam Costs Africa $15 Billion Each Year
Which Could Save Hundreds Of Thousands of Lives

African countries are being robbed of $15 billion a year because of a tax revenue scam, according to a new report by Save the Children.

Saturday, 6 June 2015 - 5:18pm
Research by the charity into ‘trade misinvoicing’, where companies purposely lie about the worth of their goods, claims the tax shortfall could pay for 1.8 million more health workers across the continent – saving hundreds of thousands of children’s lives every  year.

The report, Making a Killing, is published as African leaders attend the G7 summit in Germany today where poverty and climate change are on the agenda.

Save the Children has looked at evidence into trade misinvoicing, which costs sub Saharan African $59 billion each year and has calculated that as a result countries are losing out on $15 billion tax a year.

The Best International Film Festivals in Nigeria

The Best International Film Festivals in Nigeria

Nigeria is famous for developing the phenomenal Nollywood, the largest film industry in Africa and producing more home videos than Hollywood and second only to Bollywood in the world. But there are currently only five credible international film festivals in Nigeria and none of them has a film market. They may not be in competition with Cairo, Durban and other notable international film festivals in Africa, but they are showing great prospects of becoming the best organized in the continent.

Bonny LGA Chairman Bans "Ogogoro Kai Kai" Hot Drinks and Declares War Against Filth

Bonny LGA Chairman Bans "Ogogoro  Kai Kai" Hot Drinks and Declares War Against Filth

The Chairman, Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Honourable Omuso Abbey, says a clean environment promotes public health and elongates our lifespan and as such we should all strive to ensure our environment is always clean.

Clearing the refuse.
Meeting with the task force.

Hon. Abbey said this during the week when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Bonny Health Centre at Market Road where he frowned at the sight of a refuse dump close to the health centre and the threat it posed to the patients' well being and ordered an immediate evacuation of the unsightly nuisance.

The LGA Chairman queried the staff of the health centre as to why they should  allow such a public health hazard to exist close to the centre knowing fully well its implication on the well being of their patients.

Meanwhile, in a swift response to the several deaths recorded across the LGA due to the consumption of a harmful type of local gin (kai kai) composed of methanol, the LGA Chairman, Hon. Omuso Abbey, has set up a task force to locate, confiscate and destroy drums and bottles of all brands of the local gin (kai-kai) which has claimed not less than 20 lives since Sunday, 31st May, 2015.

Drums of  local gin (kai-kai) .

Additionally, the task force will also monitor illegal and indiscriminate dumping of refuse by residents to curb further littering of the environment which is dangerous to health.

Moreso, the Chairman, who later inspected the cemetery, was highly displeased seeing the appalling state of the cemetery which has been overgrown with grass, noting that "our dead should be respected. Here, lies those who in one way or the other have contributed to the growth and development of this community and thus, should be respected by always keeping the place clean and grass-free for easy entrance for those who may want to go pay tribute to their loved ones once in a while".

He, therefore, set up another task force to commence immediate cleaning of the cemetery.

The LGA boss promised to supervise the activities of the various task forces by himself to ensure their effectiveness and speedy discharge of their assigned mandate, assuring the people of his commitment to improve their welfare and well being before the end of his tenure.

The Family Friendly Photographs that Changed Public Image of Muhammadu Buhari

These presidential election campaign photographs changed the public image of President Muhammadu Buhari from the previous images of cold and stern looking personality to a family friendly father, grand father and more tolerant public friendly political leader.

These photographs of Buhari and grandson and grand daughter boosted his public relations and endeared him to the younger population.
Some of the photographs were inspired by President Barack Obama's interactions with children.

These photographs showed us that the retired General Muhammadu Buhari is now indeed a born again political leader from the former military dictator to a true democratic leader who should inspire millions of Nigerians in the fulfillment of the Nigerian Dream of a New Nigeria.

As the lyrics from "The Greatest Love of All" speak volumes for the expectations of Nigerian children who are indeed searching for a hero; someone to look up to after thousands of them have been traumatized by the nightmares of the horrors of the bloody Boko Haram terrorists in the middle belt and northern regions of Nigeria. And we hope President Muhammadu Buhari will not disappoint them.
"Greatest Love Of All"
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody's searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to.
PS: "The Greatest Love of All" is a song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed and originally recorded by George Benson for the 1977 Muhammad Ali biopic The Greatest.

The Victory of Muhammadu Buhari, Eze Festus Odimegwu, Igbos and My New Book

The Victory of Muhammadu Buhari, Eze Festus Odimegwu, Igbos and My New Book

When Nigerians Report Online and other news media channels published "Why the Victory of Muhammadu Buhari is the Best for Igbos" by Eze Festus Odimegwu on the eve of the 2015 presidential election on March 27, many Igbos did not bother to read it and others read, but could not challenge the salient reasons of the highly intellectual Nigerian technocrat. Majority of Igbos never expected the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan to lose the March 28 presidential election with his billion dollar re-election political machinery. And in fact, the same Igbo supporter of former President who even paid me to publish the political treatise of Eze Odimegwu, boasted that Muhammadu Buhari would be weeping again in defeat. But contrary to all expectations of majority of the Igbos, Almighty God had a different plan for Nigeria and His will prevailed. The rest as they say is now history.

Majority of Nigerian masses were tired of the horrifying nightmares of the 16 years maladministration of the ruling party and wanted a change of government and the Change mantra of the leading opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) became their national slogan from the street to the internet. The momentum of the wind of change turned the tide against the incumbent president and he lost the presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari who made history as the first Nigerian presidential candidate to defeat an incumbent president. Eze Odimegwu and the minority of Igbos who supported Buhari were vindicated. And I felt more justified to publish "The Victory of Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian Dream: My Testimony on the 2015 Presidential Election". This is the first book on the 2015 presidential election.
The first paperback version is already available on Lulu, http://www.lulu.com/shop/michael-chima-ekenyerengozi/the-victory-of-muhammadu-buhari-and-the-nigerian-dream/paperback/product-22201460.html.
The tablet version will be on Amazon Kindle next week and the hardcover version will follow.

Every literate person deserves to have a copy of this book and read it.
It is an important documentary on the most melodramatic presidential election in the political history of Nigeria in 114 pages in full colour. The book captured the most colourful moments of the presidential election campaigns of Muhammadu Buhari; the principal political protagonists and antagonists and the selection of the most captivating photographs of APC leaders, their beautiful wives, the Zahra Buhari's WOW moments on Twitter and the top entertainers who endorsed and supported Muhammadu Buhari all the way from 2014 to the historical presidential election on March 28, 2015.
