Veteran Journalist Anne Thompson Joins Indiewire Staff as Editor-at-Large

LOS ANGELES, March 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Indiewire, which was acquired earlier this year by Penske Media Corporation (PMC), is adding seasoned journalist Anne Thompson to its full-time editorial staff. She will move from her blog, Thompson on Hollywood, to expand her six-year relationship with Indiewire as Editor-at-Large, working closely with Editor-in-Chief Dana Harris. Indiewire is also celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.
Thompson will also serve as Awards Editor, overseeing not only awards coverage during the Oscar corridor, as she has in the past, but also for Emmy® season, as Indiewire broadens its television content.

Thompson will be based in Los Angeles, reporting to Harris and working closely with New York Deputy Editor (and "Screen Talk" podcast partner) Eric Kohn to supervise the Indiewire editorial staff in PMC's Los Angeles and New York offices.

Many TOH writers, including below-the-line and animation expert Bill Desowitz, TV columnist Matt Brennan, and box office analyst Tom Brueggemann, will continue as Indiewire contributors.

"We are excited to have Thompson join our team full time and we look forward to embracing her creative ideas as we enhance Indiewire's TV content in myriad ways," said Harris. "Thompson will boost our newsroom's ability to deliver thought-provoking and compelling editorial coverage, infused with the independent sensibility Indiewire readers expect."

"I'm delighted to help Indiewire become the best that it can be, while taking on the television awards beat," said Thompson. "We'll cover must-watch smart television via video, podcasts, predictions, and industry analysis, and profile the top showrunners and talent, focusing on their artistic journeys."

Prior to Indiewire, Thompson was a columnist at Variety, where she founded "Thompson on Hollywood" in 2007 after serving as deputy film editor at The Hollywood Reporter, where she launched its first blog, "Riskybiz." She was West Coast Editor at Premiere, Senior Writer at Entertainment Weekly, Risky Business columnist at the LA Weekly and the LA Times Syndicate, U.S. Editor of Empire, and West Coast Editor of Film Comment. She has also written for The New York Times, More, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, Popular Mechanics, Sight & Sound and The Guardian, among other outlets.
