AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute Calls for Release of North Korean Prisoners

Kim Jong-il (born: Yuri Irsenovich Kim;16 February 1941/2 – 17 December 2011)

I have never paid much attention to Kim Jong-il and his beloved country communist North Korea, because I don't recognize idolatry in any form, from the closet to the street or from the pulpit to the highest office in government. What we have in North Korea is not a communist government, but a cult claiming to be "Democratic People's Republic of Korea". It is nothing more than a totalitarian monarchy of the Kim Dynasty since Kim Jong-il was preceded by his father Kim Il-sung who died on 8 July 1994, and now succeeded by his son Kim Jong-un who has taken over the command of their communist cult. North Korea is being ruled by a cult of psychopaths.

The following is a statement from AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights calling for the release of all the prisoners of conscience in North Korea.

AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute Calls for Release of North Korean Prisoners

NEW YORK, Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights called for the release of prisoners in North Korea following the death of longtime ruler Kim Jong-il.

"North Koreans are arguably the least free people on earth, barely surviving under a regime that denies basic human rights and lets its population starve while it pursues weapons of mass destruction," said E. Robert Goodkind, Chair of AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute.

The accession of Kim Jong-un as the leader of North Korea, following his father's death at age 69 last week, offers opportunities "to change this pattern," said Goodkind. The new regime can advance human rights and end some of the worst practices of abuses committed by the government against its own citizens.

JBI recommends that the Kim Jong-un government:

Dismantle the kwan-li-so, political penal labor camps, and release all detained in these and other prison facilities for alleged "political crimes," including those held for religious activities or belief.

End torture and other forms of inhumane treatment or punishment.

Improve delivery and monitoring of humanitarian aid in a transparent manner.

JBI also called on the international community to focus on promoting the stability that comes from improving the human rights conditions of North Koreans, including refugees, and to continue efforts to address nuclear non-proliferation.

AJC's Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights, founded in 1971, works to protect human rights and to strengthen international institutions worldwide.

Only Trouble Makers Are Still Protesting Against the Lekki Toll Gate

Lagos State Governor paying his own toll gate in Lekki.

Only trouble makers are still protesting against the Lekki Toll Gate after Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has already explained everything and alternative routes have been provided.

These dummies spend more than that on making unnecessary phone calls and unprofitable text messages.

Now people in Lagos will learn to be prudent and stop wasting time and fuel on unnecessary journeys all over the state.

Go out for only your legit daily work and other compulsory purposes and not for unprofitable and unworthy visits or meetings.

Trouble makers are just daft!

The only problem is the traffic jam the toll gate is causing and that must be addressed.

More Stupid People Are Texting and Driving

Without apologies or regrets I have to call all those who cannot stop texting while driving as STUPID! And the following report has confirmed that the population of stupid people texting and driving is increasing.

Why should stupid people continue to text while driving when there is a cheap and easy to use device for hands free voice texting in motion?
See the demo video below.

Young drivers are most at risk of having an accident as a result of using a mobile phone

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Distracted driving is a dangerous and common practice —and it's becoming an even bigger problem on the nation's roads as more drivers are text messaging while driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the percentage of drivers who text messaged or manipulated their mobile devices while driving went up significantly, from 0.6 percent in 2009 to 0.9 percent to 2010. The latest federal figures show more than 3,000 people died in car accidents in 2010 because of drivers who were texting, using a phone or were distracted by something else.

Texting and Driving Can Be a Lethal Combination

Distractions behind the wheel include eating, talking to other passengers, or changing the radio, but there is one that is especially dangerous: reading or writing text messages. Doing this increases the risk of an accident by 2,300 percent.

But you don't have to be typing away to be at risk of having or causing an accident:

Drivers who use mobile devices are four times more likely to have an accident and injure themselves or others.
Using a cell phone while driving is the equivalent of having a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 percent, the legal limit in most states.
Using a cell phone can reduce the brain activity associated with driving by 37 percent.

Tips for Changing Your Habits

Habits can be hard to break, but these tips can help you get started:

Turn off your phone before driving away, or store it somewhere where you can't reach it.
If you have an urgent call you need to attend, find a safe place to park before using your phone.
Ask another passenger to answer your calls or messages.
Designate a copilot that can help you use other electronics in the car such as your navigation system or the radio.

How to Talk to Your Teens

Car accidents are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States. In fact, 16 percent of young drivers involved in fatal accidents were driving distracted.

There are several things parents or guardians can do to help reduce the risk of distracted driving in the family. First, set the example by refusing to drive distracted. In addition, you should:

Talk to your children about the dangers of distracted driving.
Make a commitment that no family member will drive and use mobile devices at the same time.

Establish consequences for not following the rules.
Speak up if the driver of the vehicle is using a cell phone.
Take the time to get to know your state's cell phone laws and share them with your children.

Introduce Polygraph Testing to Nigerian Law enforcement and intelligence agencies with Caution

~ By John Egbeazien Oshodi, Ph.D

There is no doubt that polygraph examination is seen as an effective investigative tool for weeding through lies to uncover the truth. As such national security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies use it to vet and monitor their detectives and spies, and the device is regularly given to criminal suspects and sometimes given to suspected private employees in industries.

Limestone Technologies Inc. Polygraph Professional Suite computerized polygraph system. Photo Credit: Wikipedia.

Polygraph examination is viewed as “truth” tool, by which confessions are extracted from a suspect or a lawbreaker, sex and violent offenders especially.

Since 1921 when polygraph was created and put to use as a lie detector in America, some countries have seen their governments using it as routine interrogation tool within the criminal justice system especially.

Now there is a high probability that in Nigeria, Detectives and Officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will be taking the polygraph examination according to the acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.

This declaration is in response to the worry of Senator Victor Lar, the Chairman of Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes. During his a recent visit to the EFCC, Senator Lar along with some committee members showed concern over the ongoing credibility and integrity problems of EFCC officers. So here comes the machine of lie detection.

As one in the profession of forensic and clinical psychology, one hears about the polygraph machine and its applications both in its analog and computerized forms. Polygraph as a term literally means "many writings,” in regards to the ways in which selected physiological or physical activities are simultaneously recorded.

The Polygraph examiner use convoluted rubber tubes which are placed over the examinees' chest and abdominal areas. Two small metal plates are attached to the fingers in order to record sweat gland activity, and a blood pressure cuff, or related device is used to record cardiovascular activity.

A typical polygraph examination usually includes a pre-test, relevant test, a chart collection period and a test data analysis time. Following the chart collection phase, the examiner will administer and collect a number of polygraph charts then analyze the charts and render an opinion as to the truthfulness of the person taking the test.

The polygraph examiner, both during and after the test can look at the graphs and can supposedly tell whether the vital signs changed significantly on any of the questions. And on a general basis, a significant change as in a faster heart rate, higher blood pressure, and increased sweating indicates that the person is lying.

Sometimes, polygraph examiner also record things like arm and leg movement therefore further assuming a lying person. The American Polygraph Association has stated that when a proficient examiner uses an established testing procedure to investigate a specific question, the accuracy and truthfulness of the decisions is generally in the range of 85-95%.

Since the aim of a lie detector is to see if the person is telling the truth or lying when answering certain questions, how a machine can detect human lying with accuracy remains a huge question among psychologists especially. For too long the scientific reliability and validity of the polygraph method of whether an individual is being truthful remains a bug matter globally.

The polygraph as an interrogation method is about to be introduced within the EFCC and possibly by other criminal justice/law enforcement subdivisions, as such it is essential to understand that its validity in terms of accuracy will depend on a lot of things that need to be done right.

Polygraph is all about autonomic arousal and biological excitement which may be caused by deception but it may also be caused by several other factors like a person’s health/medication status, and psychological state as well as cultural factors like shame or pride.

Note that there are persons who could pass the test because they believe so much in their lies and respire properly during interrogation. There is huge price to pay when one fails a lie detector test— possible job loss. Recently, the Jamaican police authorities noted that 60 percent of the 362 officers who underwent the test failed, and the concern is whether these 217 police officers who took voluntarily and failed will be disciplined.

In the United States almost all law enforcement and intelligence bodies perform polygraph examinations on their job applicants and on a suspected or accused officer.

In general, no matter where the polygraph test is being given, even when everything is done right, out 100 people took the polygraph anywhere from 5 to 15 people would fail the test. This outcome is not because they lied, but because they took the test.

By every standard the mentality of corruption in the Nigerian population remains very deep in our psyche. Since many potential and already serving officers and spies are products of the society, a supposed measure of truth like the polygraph could be a shocker!

As Africans we are not very good at lying, because we are raised to tell the truth and when we lie it is easy to tell that we are lying. It will be of interest to see how a detective accused of fabricating details of a matter, answer many pre-interview questions, and relevant questions that are deemed related to the matter of inquiry.

For example, a detective involve in a money laundry case could be asked if in his or her capacity as a public official have been bribed by any one before; in the area of an ethical, national security, security clearance, if he or she have at any time secretly spoken to a news reporter; or in a sexual/forceful harassment matter, has he harassed a female co-worker before, or beat up an offender on the way to the cell.

In cases like these there could be lots of false positive errors where an innocent person being investigated in a particular case is incorrectly identified as deceptive.

As the officer or detective will likely become nervous in the face of questions like these which will likely be failed by almost every police applicant or accused/suspect officer?

So the Nigerian law enforcement and intelligence authorities will need to be very careful as there is no known physiological or autonomic nervous system response that is unique to deception.

Also there will be need to educate public employees like law enforcement officials that in many countries polygraph test is part of the law. And the law does not exempt them as in the case of private workers in industries who to an extent could be protected by an established polygraph privacy law in places like America.

We will have to guard against the peddlers of polygraph services who will see Nigeria as a dumping ground and lay all kind of claims for the accuracy and validity of lie detectors.

In every functional law enforcement body, diagnostic tests like psychological evaluations and polygraph examinations are made mandatory, and as part of the agencies screening, disciplinary, vetting , checking and quality process which is for the sole purpose of building and maintaining an environment of high integrity and ethical standards.

In order to begin to enhance law enforcement integrity, prospective and already serving law enforcement officers and spies must submit first to professional psychological testing which is about using measured instruments to uncover hidden personality, mental, emotional, organizational, immoral, and other behavioral tendencies. Psychological testing is definitely not the same as the commonplace practice in Nigeria in regards to the frequent use of psychiatry, a specialty that is mainly about applying medications to address mental illness.

Psychological testing is very vital as it remains the main measure of hidden human emotions and personality traits, and it could give more weight to polygraph outcomes and responses in terms of overall honesty.

"Feature Phones Accounted for Over 70% of Global Handset Sales in 2011" Reports Visiongain

LONDON, December 17, 2011/PRNewswire/ --

Visiongain
's latest research Low Cost Handsets, Feature Phones and Entry Level Smartphone Report 2011-2016 [http://www.visiongain.com/Report/736/Low-Cost-Handsets-Feature-Phones-and-Entry-Level-Smartphone-Report-2011-2016 ] shows that feature phones [http://www.visiongain.com/report_license.aspx?rid=736 ] will continue to dominate the telecoms market. While the mature market is consumed with high end Smartphones, Tablets and App stores the issue of oversaturation is still without a solution. For emerging economies penetration rates are low and for operators and OEMs these areas represent vast untapped potential revenue streams, but how best to capitalize? The feature phone will remain a crucial device in manufacturer's portfolios over the next five years as emerging economies come to fruition. Low cost and ultra low cost segments mean that no-one need be without a handset.

Many emerging economies suffer from underdeveloped infrastructure and in regions without widespread access to 3G Smartphone adoption is consequently low. Other factors that have added to the slow uptake of these devices centre on price and the unwillingness of key players from mature markets such as Apple and RIM to market and push their devices in this area. As a result the competitive landscape is ripe for new entrants, new devices and a potential monopoly for anyone providing a winning strategy.

This report offers forecasts of declining ASP's for each device type. In depth regional information regarding operators, current subscriber data and detailed penetration rates is provided to ensure a through knowledge needed for segmentation. Further to this bill of material costs and average selling prices are cross referenced to outline the issue with margins when devising low and ultra low cost strategies. Key ecosystem players and up to date offerings are compared, contrasted and analysed to reveal winning strategies. Visiongain's research has located gaps in the market where new entrants can step in to capitalise, gain market share and ultimately widen revenue streams.
