Why Obasanjo Failed To Win the Mo Ibrahim Prize

Why Obasanjo Failed To Win the Mo Ibrahim Prize

What happened to the allocations for pensions of civil servants during the 8 years administration of former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and his Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from 1999-2007?

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) should not sweep the misappropriations of the allocations under the carpet.

Widespread corruption during the administration made Chief Obasanjo not to win the Mo Ibrahim Prize. The Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership is an annual prize awarded to a former African executive Head of State or Government.

The first prize awarded in 2007, was given to President Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique for "his role in leading Mozambique from conflict to peace and democracy." The great President Nelson Mandela of South Africa was given an honorary prize. Other winners included,  President Festus Mogae of Botswana, President Pedro Pires of Cape Verde and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia who won it last year, 2017.
