First Lady congratulates nation’s first female fighter pilot

The First Lady, Patience Jonathan has lauded Flying Officer Blessing Liman for being the first female fighter pilot the country has produced.

The First lady who made the commendation in a statement signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to the First lady, Mr. Ayo Osinlu in Abuja on Monday, December 12 noted that the 25 year-old Kaduna State born Liman, had done the womenfolk proud.

“I congratulate Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, Blessing Liman who was recently commissioned, for making the womenfolk proud,” She said.

While commending her for being devoted, for the single-minded pursuit of her objective and the fulfillment of her dream, the First Lady maintained that Flying Officer Liman is worthy of emulation by the youth especially young women.

She thanked President Jonathan for giving impetus to gender equality by directing service chiefs to produce female combatants in the Armed Forces.

Mrs. Jonathan stated further that Blessing’s success was a further justification of her clarion call to Nigerian women to remain committed to “excellence and hard work” and urged her to pursue her career with dedication and integrity.

The President’s wife pledged not to relent in championing the cause of the Nigerian woman for greater roles and relevance in the affairs of the country.

It will be recalled that earlier this year President Goodluck Jonathan had directed that female combatant soldiers should be enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy if they desired.
