Genevieve Nnaji Breaks New Ground for Nollywood with Her Directorial Debut "Lionheart" at TIFF 2018 in Canada

Nollywood diva, Genevieve Nnaji has become the first Nollywood filmmaker whose directorial debut feature has made the Official Selection in the Discovery Section of 43rd edition of the highly esteemed annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) of Canada scheduled to take place from September 6-16, 2018.

"Lionheart" is already acquired for international distribution by Marie-Pierre Macia"s MPM Film – MPM Film production, development, international sales.
Macia is the former Director of the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Directors’ Fortnight) of the Cannes Film Festival, where she discovered and presented the debut films of such now-famous filmmakers as Mexican director Carlos Reygadas with Japon, Sofia Coppola with Virgin Suicides and the Romanian Directors Cristi Puiu and Cristian Mungiu with respectively Marfa Si Banii and Occident. Most recently, she worked as personal adviser to Cristian Mungiu on his last film, 4 months 3 weeks 2 days, which won the Palme d’Or in Cannes 2007.

“Lionheart’ is the beginning of a journey to explore and express my creative interpretation of story-telling, particularly African stories. Africa is a possessor of the most compelling stories as yet untold, and we are determined to tell our stories, our way, through our voices, to the world.” ~ Genevieve Nnaji.

Genevieve Nnaji's outstanding achievement shows the future of Nollywood belongs to those who can see the Big Picture and that with one movie you can make history.
