#GlobalMovieDay: We Celebrate Nigerian Born Two Oscars Nominee, Cynthia Erivo!

To celebrate the inaugural #GlobalMovieDay of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), we celebrate Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo, the first Nigerian born two Oscars nominee for the Best Actress in a leading role and the Best Original Song; the first ever Nigerian born to be nominated in this category. And she is the only black nominee in the Academy’s acting categories at the 92nd Academy Awards tomorrow, February 9, 2020 (Date: Mon, 10 Feb • 2:00 am WAT) at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California, United States.

Erivo received the nomination for the Best Actress Oscar for her outstanding role of Harriet, the historic biopic on the legendary African American abolitionist, Harriet Tubman directed by Kasi Lemmons. Her nomination for Best Original Song is for the soundtrack of the film, Stand Up.

According to The Wrap: If Cynthia Erivo wins either Best Actress or Best Original Song for “Harriet,” she’ll become the 16th (and youngest) person to complete the Emmy-Grammy-Oscar-Tony grand slam known as the EGOT. (Her Emmy is a Daytime Emmy rather than a Primetime one.) Erivo’s E, G and T all came from her performance in “The Color Purple” – on stage, on album and on “The Today Show.”
