Medical Tourism Index: Country Rankings

Medical Tourism Index (MTI) The Medical Tourism Index (MTI) is a global metric and a new type of country-based performance measure of the attractiveness of a country as a medical tourist destination

Country Ranking
The country selection consisted of three criteria. First, we identified the most important one as identified in the popular press and the literature. Second, we conducted a global survey with 394 members from the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) and asked respondents which countries are the most important one for Medical Tourism. Third, we also wanted to have certain continents covered to have a more balanced geographical distribution.

The 2014 MTI considers 30 countries from Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe, Middle East, South America and North America.
It considers about 60% of the worlds population.

The following countries have been considered in the MTI 2014.  
Africa: South Africa 
Asia: China, India, Japan, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand Central America: Costa Rica, Dominic Republic, Jamaica, Panama  
Europe: France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, UK  
Middle East: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Israel, Jordan, Turkey  
North America: Canada, Mexico, South America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia
